The Planet, a privately held dedicated hosting company, today announced the immediate availability of the Quad Xeon 7550 server, equipped with the new Nehalem EX processor. The company avers that with more than three times the performance of the Intel Xeon 7400 series, this eight-core processor offers new levels of scalability and advanced reliability for mission-critical applications. It becomes the most powerful server in the company's portfolio.
It explains that built on a Dell PowerEdge R910 rack server chassis, the Quad Xeon 7550 is the first four-socket (4S) server in its fleet. It provides enhanced performance with a 2.0GHz processor, 18MB of cache and 1066MHz bus speed. The server's default configuration includes 32GB of RAM, 2TB of bandwidth and 2-300GB SAS drives. The company further explains that when hyper-threading is enabled, the 32-core processor increases to 64 cores for greater throughput and responsiveness. With this core density, combined with a memory footprint that can expand up to 2TB, this platform is ideal for virtualization and cloud deployments.
